My role:

As Senior Director of Product Design at CMT, I led a strategic project as designer on FuelStar, taking a hands-on role across advertising, web, and mobile to create a seamless experience.

Problem to solve:

In 2022 gas prices were extremely high and consumers were hurting. Aggressive driving wastes gas lowering gas mileage by roughly 10-40% compounding the cost of fuel.

Our solution:

FuelStar helps drivers save on gas with real-time feedback and predictive insights. By identifying inefficient driving habits, it helps users cut costs at the pump.

Acquisition

We first validated demand and value by running targeted Facebook ads to a painted-door landing page with sign-ups. Once demand was confirmed, we rigorously A/B tested acquisition strategies focused on fuel savings, continuously optimizing costs while driving app downloads.

Marketing Website

The FuelStar website was designed to help users understand how to save on gas by showcasing real savings. Through social proof and clear value propositions, we demonstrated how the app helps drivers cut fuel costs.

App Onboarding

Onboarding was crucial, as the link between safe driving and fuel efficiency wasn’t immediately intuitive. We focused on educating users on how the app helps them save on gas, ensuring clarity.

Core Experience

The goal was to make gas savings clear and tangible. The app showed real-time trip savings, explained calculations, and provided actionable feedback. By helping users understand their driving and improve efficiency, it turned safe driving into savings.
